€20m tender for Waste Treatment facility in Thiva, Viotia announced
The project refers to the construction of waste treatment facility in Thiva to treat 35.000 ton/y of municipal solid waste generated in the region (2nd Viotia prefectural unit). The total budget of the project is €20 mil., co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union (ESPA).
The tender deadline was set for July 1st, 2014 and the project is expected to be completed by end 2015 according to a public procurement process.
It is noted that the Prefecture of Sterea Ellada has not yet announced plans for total municipal waste treatment via the standard PPP structure followed in other Greek prefectures.
The total capacity of the unit will be 35.000ton/y of MSW and 7.000ton/y of sewage sludge. The unit shall include a separate treatment line for source separated organic waste.
Main outputs of the unit will be biogas to be converted in electricity for the grid, recyclable materials and compost. The operation will be environmentally friendly as it shall use the method of anaerobic and aerobic digestion. The process will achieve a significant reduction of processed waste to be buried in landfill.
