Aktor Concessions – Helektor announced as the preferred bidder for the Western Macedonia solid waste PPP tender

In recognition of the overall effort of Greek Government for a rational solution of the waste management problem and the promotion of related works, the waste management project of Western Macedonia was globally evaluated and chosen as “Project of the Year 2013 in the Waste Management sector” by the prestigious World Finance magazine.

The contractor will undertake the design, financing, construction, maintenance and operation of the facilities for the intergraded waste management system of Western Macedonia (150.000 tons) for 25years.

The total value of the contract is approximately Euro 45 million and will be implemented by private sources. It has been approved in principle for funding from the EIB to direct lending by the contractor, achieving lower overall funding costs , whilst benefits will be passed on to the citizens.

The contest, like all competitions PPP waste management is open to all technologies, is chosen on the basis of the lowest fares and accepts all proven technologies that achieve environmental goals. Mechanical recycling and composting will be applied as management methods.
